Rick Camp was a relief pitcher with a career batting average of .074 with zero homers. It was the bottom of the 18th with two outs, Mets up one, at around three in the morning on July 5, 1985. Atlanta had nobody on their bench, so he had to hit. John Sterling (yes that one) on TBS said, "If he hits a home run to tie this game, this game would be certified as absolutely the nutiest in the history of baseball."
The son of a bitch homered off the 0-2 pitch. Even though it happened against the Mets, seeing replays of it make me content for one, all too fleeting moment.
