Hi, Jesse here. I’m thrilled to be able to talk football with my friends Britt Huber and Grace McDermott — and, when she joins us, Keelin Billue. We had an awesome time recording our Week 0 pilot. As you’ll hear, we all enjoy this sport for the wild mix of characters and vibes and weirdness that it brings to us every fall, and really, all year round if you like off-the-field drama (and we do).
I say it at the top of the show, but I also want to say it in writing, that the title of Not A Football Podcast, is a direct reference to the Internet’s ONLY college football podcast, Shutdown Fullcast. Not that they need the pub, but I’ve been a fan of that show for a while, own a “University of Night Ham” shirt, and really appreciate how Holly, Jason, Ryan, and Spencer have helped me, just by enjoying their show about a sport that I’m not deeply invested in, get a better grasp of my own sports fandom.
We’re not them, we won’t be them, and we won’t try to be them… but also, this is a three- or four-person show, centered around football, but really just about spending some good time talking and enjoying each other’s company. Which is also what our baseball podcast, which isn’t a baseball podcast, is all about, and the site as a whole.
