Taylor Swift: The Dingers Tour
If Joey Votto needs a reason to give it a go in 2024 after being told by the Cincinnati Reds that his services are no longer required, there’s history out there for him to chase.
On August 7, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Votto hit back-to-back homers against the Marlins. For the rookie, who hit 13 home runs this season, the dinger was the first of its kind. For the veteran Votto, the home run tied a record. At least, those things were true later that night, when Taylor Swift took the stage in Los Angeles for the fourth of her six shows there on The Eras Tour.
Swift is, like Major League Baseball, taking a break right now between a busy 2023 and 2024 tour schedule, as The Eras Tour resumes in February in Japan. She started as a major traveling act in 2009, with the Fearless Tour, which began that April 23 in Evansville, Indiana.
That day, Albert Pujols was busy hammering the Mets with a pair of home runs, leading the Cardinals in a 12-8 slugfest against Liván Hernández. It was the first of 15 home runs given up on Swift concert dates by Hernández, and the first of 23 that Pujols hit on the Fearless Tour alone.
The leader in Taylor Swift concert date home runs from the very beginning, Pujols ended up with 63 of his 703 dingers in the category. The last one was August 18, 2018 in Texas, followed later in that Angels-Rangers game by Shohei Ohtani’s fourth Swift Swat. Ohtani is now up to 20, one ahead of contemporary Aaron Judge, while Pujols finished with 63. Now, Votto is tied with 63 of his 356 career taters, and while a 2024 role for the 40-year-old first baseman might be something like cheer captain, Pujols is in the bleachers.
To celebrate Swift’s birthday, here are some home run facts for each of her tours so far.
