The 79 Best Names of the 2023 MLB Draft
In which Mets fourth-round pick Wyatt Hudepohl is snubbed
There's something about a first name and last name joining forces to convey a statement. It isn't fair sometimes to assume you know someone based on their name. Sometimes the name perfectly fits.
My friend Tom is obsessed with this. He thinks he can predict how well an athlete will do, based on their name. He might as well have majored in Nominative Determinism. Tom stepped it up a notch recently by claiming he can also figure out what position a baseball player calls his own based on their epiphet. Of course, I called bullshit on his accuracy. I tested this out with the top two Mets draft picks.
