This is one of those pieces that you put together knowing that you’re going to hate running it, but it’s going to run eventually, and today is that day. But this isn’t just a canned piece. Vin Scully’s death on Tuesday, at the age of 94, is a chance to celebrate his life, and to make the final additions to the memorial that’s been grimly sitting in the drafts until now.
The other day, during the Mets’ game in Miami, the always-fantastic Mets TV crew brought up the original Marlins, the minor league team that once filled the Orange Bowl when Satchel Paige pitched. And while going through a few more Scully clips, wouldn’t you know, he had a perfect story about it.
The way we’ll remember Vin Scully is through his words, not ours. So here they are.
